Looking for practice and exposure to current UX tools, I utilized the Sketch one month free trial to work through some portions of the UX design cycle.
I uncovered some problems in current market dating apps by talking to girlfriends.
I defined the type of user that would be inclined to use my app, Pauw, as those looking to date. This influenced other decisions and parameters the app would require a new user to fill-out or comply by.
The biggest complaints of current women using dating apps were: that some apps don't promote matched users to engage, often you had to pay to have access to profile parameter selections (ie. only seeing profiles of people over a certain height), and they need to enforce identity verification for all profiles.
After identifying these pain points I dug into identifying the MVP and drew up mockups.
Here I am doing some mind mapping, writing down suggestions from friends, and compiling lists of information to collect in the app.
A few mock views, suggesting what type of view a user would see based on if they were new or logged in.
I brainstormed more prompts, and basic ideas for a simple but effective logo, the mascot of DePauw is the tiger, so a paw print felt fitting.
There were three main views the app would need:
I turned these ideas into wireframes in Sketch, using a IOS compatible designing package.
I would love to finish up the designs for this practice project, and run some user testing. Taking that information and writing the front-end in Xcode and while learning Xcode's UI kit to develop the app. Pairing up with a friend in software engineering to help me execute the backend development would also be an idea to explore.
